FAQ
No question is too big or too small. Hiring an online consultant to work with your business is an important decision. We've highlighted a few common questions below, if you can't find what you're looking for feel free to send us an email or ask a question on twitter.
Q. Why is web analytics important?
A: Companies invest a lot of time and money into their website. Web analytics can be used to evaluate if the website is achieving the business objectives.
Q. What is SEO?
A: SEO stands for search engine optimisation. When users do a search for a business in our area you want your website to come up in the first page of results on the major search engines such as google, yahoo and ninemsn. There are a range of changes that can be made to your website and content to ensure it’s optimised for search engines.
Q. What web analytics solutions are you most familar with?
A: Omniture SiteCatalyst and Google analytics.
David started out in web analytics learning Omniture, looking at visitor analysis and form abandonment on several financial application forms. Having completed the Omniture University advanced implementation training course, David worked with Omniture Consulting on a best practice implementation across five sites.
Whilst Omniture is a recognised leader in online analytics, google analytics is a free alternative. We have experience implementing google analytics on more than ten sites including tracking flash elements such as online video and games.
Q. Why are urchin statistics or page views different from Google Analytics?
A: Urchin tracks non-human traffic such as search engine spiders and bots which inflates page view traffic.
Q. What is bounce rate?
A: Bounce rate effectively measures users who do not engage with your website or landing page. This can be measured two ways, either the user was on your site for a small amount of time (usually 5 seconds or less) or they landed on a page and then left directly without navigating to another page. For further reading see this article by Avinash Kaushik.
Q. What is an acceptable bounce rate?
A: Generally the lower the bounce rate the better. Some rules of thumb are 70%+ is bad, 50-70% is not great, 30-50% getting there, under 30% is ideal.
Q. What areas do you work?
A: We mainly work with Sydney based businesses however are open to work with your company wherever you’re based. If you are looking for a web consultant in any of the following areas; Randwick, Coogee, Bondi Junction, Rose Bay, Redfern, Chatswood, North Sydney, Ryde, Castle Hill, Parramatta, Hornsby, then contact us.
Q. What is the difference between tracking hits and visits?
A: Tracking website hits is not an accurate way to measure human online behaviour. A visit is more accurate as it's basically looking at the number of 'sessions'. See our glossary for full definitions.
